It's telling to me that Jesus was accused of being a glutton and a drunkard.
It’s telling to me that Jesus was accused of being a glutton.
I don't believe Jesus was a glutton. He didn't habitually overeat. He occasionally/regularly feasted with friends.
It’s telling to me that Jesus was accused of being a drunkard.
He didn’t habitually over-drink. He drank in celebration during the festivals…remembering freedom, holiness, community…as well as in prophetic/forward thinking of his own acts of love.
It’s telling to me that elitists were mad that Jesus was friends with tax collectors.
He didn’t take advantage of people in any financial way. He befriended people who had chosen the questionable path of profiting with the Roman empire who exploited nations.
It’s telling to me that religious people thought that Jesus shouldn’t be friends with sinners.
It says a lot about their pride…not in any way considering their own sin.
What did Jesus actually do? He ate and drank with human beings. He had friends from different backgrounds. Different life paths. He saw beyond the surface.
Jesus eats with us. Drinks with us. Befriends us no matter what.
Let’s do the same for/with one another.
