The Whole Thing Book
“The Bible is often overwhelmingly and falsely oversimplified, with an emphasis on the brokenness of the world. This is my simplified explanation of the Bible, with a wholehearted attempt to not oversimplify or falsify. I want to explain what I think the whole thing is about. Where it’s coming from. Where it’s headed. And how the story isn’t about brokenness, but wholeness.
This is my limited attempt to teach the story of the entire Bible in a way that is clear, short, simple, fresh, and memorable.
I’m not trying to explain everything. I’m trying to explain the whole thing.”
“One day, we will see Him. We will call Him by His Name. And He will call us by ours.”
I am married to my queen, Kimberly. We have been married since 2000. She is strong and wise and gentle and beautiful. She has taught me so much about who God is, and about who I am. We have two amazing daughters, Grey and Violet. They are independent and smart and so pretty. They are so alike, and even more so, they are so very different from one another.
I love trail running, hiking, camping, and swimming. I grew up at the beach, but feel more at home in the mountains. I read a lot. Most of it has to do with ancient near eastern thought and history. I rarely read novels, but when I do, it’s super fun.
I have been in church ministry for almost all of my adult life. I have been the teaching pastor of theHeart since 2009. I am also an Adjunct Professor of Public Speaking at Appalachian State University. A Visiting Professor of Biblical Studies at Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary.
Speaking to groups of all kinds is something that I feel is a natural, deep calling. When I am standing on a stage, looking at eager faces, I am reminded of the holy responsibility that we all have to love.
